Bishop Broncos Wrestling Team Makes Semi-finals in Multiple Tournaments
Last weekend the Bishop Bronco Wrestling Team competed in two tournaments. Three sophomores,
Kano Graves
Blake Braten
and Mikey Trejo were in a tournament in Victorville. The eight other boys on the team,
Elbert Montoya
Brody Berkovatz
Joseph Gomez-Salque
Jaidyn McKellips
Daxen Svacina
Granite Puhvel
Wayland Schultz
and Byron Gustie
competed in a tournament in Bakersfield.
Kano Graves, wrestling at 157 pounds, made it into the quarterfinals then lost by one point in a very close match. Kano ended with a 6th place finish. Blake Braten went 2-2 and Mikey Trejo had 3 wins and 2 losses.
At the Bakersfield tournament, Joseph Gomez-Salque, Elbert Montoya and Granite Puhvel went 1-2 on the day. Jaidyn McKellips, wrestling at 165 pounds, made it to the semifinals where he lost by one point in a very exciting match.
Head Coach Mark Hodges said, “This was the first tournament for most of the team and I was pleased by how everyone performed.”
The next action for the team will be a home dual meet with Kern Valley on Wednesday, January 19th. The meet will start at 5 pm in the West Gym.
