Bishop Broncos Girls Tennis Season Ends with HDL Tournament
The four schools in the High Desert League met on Thursday for a single elimination tennis tournament. Each school entered 2 singles players and two doubles teams for a total of 24 girls playing.
In the first round of singles Bishop‘s Scout Osland and Lucia Elia both were able to win their matches. Scout won 6-2 6-1 against Rosamond’s player. Lucia won 5-7 7-6 (9-7) and 10-5 against Desert.
In the second round however both lost. Scout lost 2-6 3-6 to Kern Valley and Lucia lost 3-6 3-6 to Kern Valley.
In doubles Cadence Nott and Ania Durham lost to the #2 seed from Desert 0-6 and 2-6.
The final doubles team from Bishop consisted of Kinlei Romero and Avery McGraw . They defeated Kern Valley 6-0 6-2 to move on to the 2nd round but then had to play the #1 seed from Desert and lost 0-6 3-6.
The Bronco tennis season ended with the completion of the tournament.
Coach Cummings wanted to thank her assistants Emilee Norcross, Eddie Kwan, and Renee Mattovich for all their help. Also Tawni Romero and Amy Ablanedo for driving vans and helping out, and all the parents who brought water and supported the team. A Big thank you to Waylon Cleland and Will Dondero at the City Park and all the people who donated to the team’s fundraisers this year. Thank you to Stacy Van Nest for all her help as Athletic Director.
