Bishop Broncos Girls Soccer Defeats Yosemite Badgers in Overtime, Continues to CIF Semi Finals

The Bishop Lady Broncos hosted the Yosemite Badgers in the CIF quarterfinal game at John Schwab field last night. The game was a defensive game the entire night.

The Badgers struck first late in the first. Making the halftime score 0-1.

The Bishop Broncos’ JuliAnna Jackson scored early in the second half from a penalty kick tying the game. Both teams would battle the rest of the second half ending regular time with the score of 1 – 1

The game went into overtime with two 10 minute halves. Again the Yosemite Badgers struck first. The Bishop Lady Broncos battle back and tied the game. At the end of the first overtime the score was 2 to 2.

The game went into sudden death Golden Globe overtime, 2 five minute periods, first team scores wins. Both teams’ players were exhausted, especially the Broncos after battling the Ridgeview Wolfpack the night before. The Bishop Lady Broncos defense held strong struggling with the speed of the Yosemite Badgers. Sudden death overtime resulted in no goals being scored by either team.

The game went into a shoot out where five players from each team were selected to kick penalty shots. Riley Van Nest was in net for the Broncos. At the end of the shoot out both teams had put the ball in the back of the net four of the five shots, bringing the game into sudden death shoot out.

Katya Fierro represented Bishop first and place the ball in the back of the net. The Yosemite Badger’s player then shot and goalkeeper Riley Van Nest made the save winning the game.

Coach Bill Dailey said he is extremely proud of his team. The Bishop Lady Broncos had not had to face opponents this year with the speed or the aggressiveness that was presented by the Badgers. The Bishop Lady Broncos throughout league season never really had to face adversity or fight back from being behind.

The Lady Broncos will now travel to Fowler to play the Redcats in the CIF semi finals on February 21. The Fowler Redcats are ranked 2 nd in the CIF central section division 4. Bishop Lady Broncos are ranked first in the CIF central section division 5.
