FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

BIG PINE PAIUTE TRIBE OF THE OWENS VALLEY COMMENDS INYO COUNTY CRIMINAL CASE RESOLUTION

The Big Pine Paiute Tribe commends the Inyo County District Attorney’s office for resolving the criminal prosecution of former tribal staff members Jacklyn and Garrett Bryan for a grant of diversion.

The people who broke into the “old” Tribal Office on January 7, 2024, both tribal members and their co- conspirators, were not legally authorized to do so. Jacklyn as the Tribal Administrator and Garrett as the CDD Manager in the housing department, were legally authorized to be in the Tribal Office on a weekend, while the trespassers were not. Jacklyn and Garrett were assaulted and battered by these trespassers and in return used reasonable force to defend themselves and eject the trespassers from the property of the Tribal Office.

While the Tribal Council disagreed with the 2024 decision of the previously elected Inyo County District Attorney to commence this criminal prosecution against Jacklyn and Garrett, we are gratified that the current District Attorney has re-evaluated the case and resolved it appropriately.

Where did this “official statement” come from? The elected chairperson, Anthony Williams, is the authorized representative of the tribe when the General Council is not in session. Did Eastern Sierra News reach out to him for a comment? Did you look at any records to verify this was accurate, or just take the word of Jacklyn and Garrett that they were exonerated?

John, quit being weirdo. Submit this comment to the tribe as a complaint or get on GC/TC Agenda.
