Traffic Advisory for the Week of 9/21/2026 to 9/25/2026

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of September 21 – September 25.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Traffic Impacts

Inyo County

• Bishop Creek Utility Work – On State Route 168 W near South Lake Road east of Aspendell and near W. Bishop Creek Road utility crews will replace poles Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

Mono County

• Silver Lake Wire Crossing – On State Route 158 from the winter closure gate to Silver Lake Campground, utility crews will cross wire over the roadway on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
• Grant Lake Electrical Work – On State Route 158 (N. June Lake Loop) from the winter closure gate to the northern junction with U.S. 395, there will be electrical work on Friday. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
• Tioga Pass Electrical Work – On State Route 120 W from Tioga Lake to the eastern gate of Yosemite National Park, crews will perform electrical work Monday and Tuesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
• Virginia Lakes Pole Replacement – On U.S. 395 from Virginia Lakes Road to State Route 270 (Bodie Road), utility crews will replace poles on Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.
• Conway Ranch Electrical Work – On State Route 167 from U.S. 395 to Conway Ranch near Mono City, there will be electrical work Thursday and Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
• Bridgeport Banner Removal – On U.S. 395 near Sinclair Street, crews will remove the welcome banner over the road on Tuesday from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.
• Bridgeport Utility Work – On U.S. 395 from Kirkwood Street to Emigrant Street, utility crews will replace poles on Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.
• Sonora Junction Electrical Work – On State Route 108 from Sonora Bridge Campground to U.S. 395, crews will perform electrical work Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

• Kern County Striping Work – On State Route 58 the following exits will close while crews continue to stripe the pavement:
  o  148 at Tucker Road
  o  149 at Mill Street
  o  152 at Tehachapi Blvd
  o  199 at Boron Avenue
  Work is scheduled Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will also be intermittent night work. Detours are available, and drivers may experience brief delays.

Inyo County

• Bishop Pavement Project – There will be intermittent lane and intersection closures while crews pave State Route 168 (W. Line Street) from U.S. 395 to Pioneer Lane starting Sunday, September 20. The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph from Jay Street to Wye Road. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
• City of Bishop Water Main Replacement Project – On State Route 168 W (W. Line Street) from Fowler Street to U.S. 395, the road remains fully closed while the City of Bishop replaces its water line. Work is scheduled 24 hours a day Monday through Friday. Detours are available.
• Manzanar Pavement Project – All traffic has shifted to the new southbound lanes of U.S. 395 between Fort Independence and the southern end of Independence while crews rehabilitate the pavement on the northbound lanes. Crews continue backing the shoulders, placing delineators, constructing guardrail, grinding rumble strips, and striping the new pavement of the southbound lanes of U.S. 395 from the southern end of Independence to 2.5 miles south of Manzanar National Historic Site. Turns onto several cross streets are unavailable from U.S. 395 within Independence. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and 25 mph within Independence. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience delays.
• Lone Pine Sidewalks Project – On U.S. 395 in Lone Pine, the outside lane and shoulders remain closed for drainage, sidewalk, curb, and gutter work at the following locations:
  o  Southbound from Teya Road to Inyo Street,
  o  Northbound from Locust Road to E. Lubken Avenue.
  Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
• Little Lake Pavement Repair – On U.S. 395 from Little Lake to Cinder Road south of Coso Junction, the outside lanes and shoulder will intermittently close while crews stripe new pavement Monday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Mono County

• June Lake Utility Work – On State Route 158 from U.S. 395 to Lyle Terrace Road, utility crews continue to replace poles on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be intermittent traffic breaks, and drivers may experience 20-minute delays.
• Bridgeport Pavement Work – On State Route 182 from the junction of U.S. 395 to approximately 1.5 miles north of the Bridgeport Reservoir dam, crews continue to rehabilitate and stripe the pavement Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers will experience 5-minute delays.
• Topaz Cape Seal Operation – On U.S. 395 from Hackney Drive near Walker to the Nevada state line, crews continue the chip seal operation Tuesday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, and on Friday from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 20-minute delays.

The Manzanar Pavement Project received $44.64 million and the Bishop Pavement Project received $18.36 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change. The Manzanar Pavement Project received $5.78 million and the Bishop Pavement Project received $2.4 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
