Save Our National Forests!

For more than 20 years, the Roadless Rule has protected 58.5 million acres of national forests and grasslands—including hundreds of thousands of acres in California’s Sierra Nevada/Eastern Sierra, where undeveloped forests safeguard our clean water, wildlife, Tribal cultural resources, and beloved outdoor recreation. The Inyo National Forest is lucky to have 300,000 acres of Inventoried Roadless Areas that are protected under the rule.

Now these protections—and all the ecological, cultural, and recreational values that depend on them—are at risk. On August 18, 2026, the Trump Administration’s Department of Agriculture released its proposal to gut the Roadless Rule and offer up 45 million of those acres to logging, mining, and oil and gas drilling. (Idaho and Colorado have state rules protecting roadless national forestlands). Without the Roadless Rule’s protections—and given Trump’s all-out assault on the environment—the result will be fragmented forests, increased wildfire risks, destroyed Tribal cultural resources, and greater threats to our communities and recreation economies.

The deadline to provide comments to the Forest Service is September 21, 2026. We must make our voices heard. Here are the two things YOU can do NOW:
