Access Mammoth Receives Mono County’s 2026 Nonprofit of the Year Recognition
Award honors Access Mammoth’s work expanding access to adaptive mountain recreation throughout the Eastern Sierra
MAMMOTH LAKES, CA – Access Mammoth has been named Mono County’s 2026 Nonprofit of the Year by Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil. The recognition was presented during the Mammoth Lakes Town Council meeting on Wednesday, July 15, honoring Access Mammoth’s work expanding access to the outdoors.
This year’s award theme, “Transforming Loss into Legacy,” recognizes organizations whose work helps individuals, families, and communities navigate hardship and change while creating lasting positive impact. Through adaptive skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, climbing, paddle sports, and other year-round programs across the Eastern Sierra, Access Mammoth helps make mountain recreation accessible for every body.
“We are thrilled that the very important work of providing access to mountain sports for all is being recognized by Senator Alvarado-Gil.” said Marisa Gierlich, Access Mammoth’s Executive Director. “This award represents the tireless dedication of our staff, participants, volunteers, and entire community to the core belief that the exhilaration of outdoor experiences changes lives. Thank you for the recognition!”
Senator Alvarado-Gil echoed that sentiment in her remarks honoring the organization.
“Transforming loss into legacy isn’t just a theme, it’s what organizations like Access Mammoth do every day,” said Senator Alvarado-Gil. “Through adaptive recreation, they help people reclaim joy, confidence, and purpose after life-altering injuries, illnesses, and profound change in our mountain communities.”
