Eastern Sierra Wildfire Alliance Presenting Inaugural Last Chance Survival Simulation Workshop
Bishop, CA – The Eastern Sierra Wildfire Alliance, in partnership with the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego, announces the inaugural Last Chance Survival Simulation Workshop. Designed to empower residents in wildfire-prone areas, the groundbreaking event will be held January 27, 2024 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Tallman Pavilion, Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop.
The all-day workshop is intended to address the urgent need for enhanced wildfire safety and evacuation training, offering a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application. The morning session, filled with engaging modules, will be followed by hands-on simulations and visits to designated “Temporary Refuge Areas” in the afternoon.
Uniting Fire Safe Councils and communities across Inyo and Mono counties, the workshop covers:
- Case Studies and Fire Behavior: Analyzing real incidents and understanding local fire history.
- Survival Site Selection: Identifying safe temporary refuge areas based on terrain and case studies.
- Thinking Like a Firefighter: Developing a mindset for effective decision-making during emergencies.
- Family-Level Preparedness: Strategies to fortify households against wildfire threats.
- Evacuation Process: Recognizing alerts, understanding orders, and utilizing information sources.
- Psychology of Survival: Addressing the mental and emotional aspects of crisis management.
- Accessing Survival Areas: Navigating challenges to access survival zones.
This workshop marks the initiation of our regional collaborative Fire Adapted Communities program, sponsored by the Inyo-Mono Resource Conservation District. Bringing together Fire Safe Councils and Firewise Communities, the event aims to build resilient communities and establish a united network to collectively address wildfire challenges.
