2023 Tour of the California Alps Road Closures
MONO & ALPINE COUNTIES – Caltrans will temporarily close State Routes 89 and 4 to all traffic, except for emergency, law enforcement, and support vehicles, for the 2023 Tour of the California Alps – Death Ride.
State highways will be impacted as follows tomorrow, July 15:
- State Route 89 (Monitor Pass) from the junction of State Route 4 in Alpine County to the junction of U.S. 395 in Mono County will be closed from 5:00 a.m. to noon.
- State Route 89 will be closed from the Markleeville Courthouse to the junction of State Route 4 from 5:00 am to 7:00 am.
- State Route 4 (Ebbetts Pass) will be closed from 5:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The start/finish line will be at Turtle Rock Park in Alpine County. Organizers expect more than 1,000 riders for the 42nd rendition of the Death Ride. Participants can ride up to six passes on SR-89 and SR-4, scaling Monitor Pass twice, Ebbetts Pass twice, and the Pacific Grade twice, traversing a total of 103 miles, including more than 14,000 feet of vertical climbing.
