State Route 158 S Reopens from Closure
JUNE LAKE – Caltrans reopened State Route 158 S (South June Lake Loop) from North Shore Drive to the town of June Lake today at 4:00 pm. The highway initially closed on February 27 due to heavy snow and avalanche risk. Following several more snowstorms and atmospheric rivers, Caltrans conducted avalanche mitigation on the hillside along the highway on Thursday, March 23, before starting snow removal operations.
Though the highway is now open, more snowstorms may impact it in the coming weeks. Caltrans encourages everyone driving to the Sierra Nevada in April to check weather forecasts before any planned travel.
