Parks and Facilities Update

Spring is just around the corner and Mother Nature is already delivering abundant sunshine and high temperatures that turn our thoughts toward warm-weather activities. This may leave you wondering when your favorite Town park or facility will open. It’s important to remember that spring temperatures can be fickle, and freezing pipes are still a legitimate concern for all locations. Town staff is doing its best to open facilities but must keep protection of infrastructure in mind. Currently, the Community Dog Park as well as the Whitmore Track and Field, and Ballfield 1 & 3 are OPEN without access to water. This means no water for your furry friends at the Dog Park and no restrooms other than porta potties at all locations. Additionally, the Little Brothers Skatepark is OPEN with restrooms available. Bookmark the Parks and Facilities Status page [https://www.townofmammothlakes.ca.gov/228/Parks-and-Facilities-Update] for the latest updates and please be patient as we work toward spring and summer recreation, one step at a time.

Help Keep our Trails Dog Friendly for Everyone!

Mammoth Lakes is a dog paradise, but to keep it Fido-friendly, we must work together to allow ALL town path users to feel safe. The Town’s Municipal Code 6.12.210 states that it is unlawful for any dog owner to allow his or her dog to run at large within the Town of Mammoth Lakes’ Municipal Boundary. Simply put, if you are walking your dog around town outside of your private property, your dog is required to be on a leash. It doesn’t matter if your dog is friendly or under voice command. Being respectful to other people and their dogs is paramount – please leash your dog. The leash law is meant to help protect everyone and to reduce the number of dog incidents to people and other dogs. Enforcement can be as simple as a friendly warning or can escalate to multiple citations. Dog incidents and bites can also result in costly civil lawsuits including expensive hospital or vet bills. If you would like a space within the Town boundaries to let your dog run free, the Community Dog Park has reopened and is available daily from dawn to dusk, weather permitting.
