Broncos Girls Varsity Soccer Defeats Mammoth Huskies

Thursday, December 15, 2022 the Bishop lady Broncos varsity soccer team hosted the Mammoth Huskies for the second game this season in league play.

As expected with a hard core rivalry, both teams came out fighting. First goal came halfway through the first half when forward Ellie Crall crossed the ball from the right side of the field to center midfielder Brooklyn Braaten who was able to put the ball in the back of the net.

At the end of the first half Huskie player Jenny Cecena had a break away down the center of the field and scored. Both teams went into the half with the score 1-1

The teams battled the entire game. Freshman goalie Riley Van Nest made several great saves during the game and played outstanding. The Bronco defense, right back Gabby Veenker, center back Morgan Boothe, center back and captain Zoe Dailey, and left back Kenia Gonzales limited Mammoth Huskies’ attack.

During the first half with an empty net and a ball rolling into the Broncos goal, Center back Zoe Dailey out of nowhere was able to intercept the ball and cleared it, preventing a Huskie goal.

Late in the second half freshman forward Jillian Veenker got the call to the field. With approximately two minutes left in the game captain JuliAnna Jackson sent a beautiful cross from the right side the field to the front of the net. Jillian Veenker was able to connect and put the ball into the back corner scoring the second goal and ending the game 2-1.

Coach Bill Dailey stated both teams played extremely hard during a very physical game. These are always the type of games that are fun to watch and play. Lifetime memories come out of these type of games. We were fortunate to pull out a victory this time.

The Bishop Lady Broncos would like to thank the Huskies for an outstanding game and great sportsmanship.

The Bishop Lady Broncos’ next game will be Tuesday, December 20 at 3 o’clock. They will host the Rosamond Road Runners.
