SUMMARY:Big Pine Cemetery Heritage Walk
DESCRIPTION:For anyone who has wandered through an old cemetery and wondered about the lives and stories behind the names carved in stone\, the Big Pine Cemetery District is offering a chance to hear some of those stories brought to life. \nAfter a hiatus of several years\, the Big Pine Cemetery Heritage Walk returns Saturday\, October 10\, at historic Crocker Cemetery. The cemetery’s earliest burials are believed to date to the late 1860s\, leaving more than 150 years of Big Pine history waiting to be discovered. \nThose who remember Heritage Walks of years past will find something different this year: all of the stories featured on the walk will be new. \nDuring the Heritage Walk\, local residents portraying people buried at Crocker Cemetery will share first-person stories of their lives\, their experiences and the events that helped shape Big Pine and the Owens Valley. Along the way\, visitors may encounter a few other characters wandering among the headstones\, perhaps still searching for a story\, a familiar face\, or even a lost soul. \nThis year’s stories are only the beginning. Many more are waiting to be told\, and as the renewed Heritage Walk tradition unfolds in the years ahead\, visitors can look forward to meeting new characters and discovering new chapters of Big Pine’s past with each walk. \nEach guided tour will last approximately one hour\, with seating available at presentation stops throughout the cemetery. Refreshments will be offered afterward at the Big Pine Saloon located onsite\, and an opportunity for photos with our ghost. \nThe Big Pine Cemetery Heritage Walk will be held Saturday\, October 10\, with tours departing between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Crocker Cemetery\, 605 Crocker Street\, Big Pine. Tickets are a $10 donation and may be purchased in advance by calling Rose at 760 938-2911 or at the event. \nThe Heritage Walk is presented by the Big Pine Cemetery District with the help of local volunteers dedicated to keeping the stories of Big Pine alive.
