Today\, Lee Vining is the vibrant heart of the Mono Basin\, the eastern gateway to Yosemite National Park via Tioga Pass\, and an iconic community along Highway 395. DESCRIPTION:Demo & Painting Workshop: Tuesday September 22nd 12pm-5pm \n  \nThis workshop will share how Artists\, Jessica de Jesus and Becky Alarcon\, approach plein air painting – how small quick sketches can lead to a finished piece\, either in the field or at home. Our goal is to help participants see the fun and build confidence in outdoor painting\, despite the elements and distractions that come with painting in public. \n  \nThis workshop is ideal for artists who are new to plein air painting\, though artists of all levels are welcome. The workshop will include short demonstrations\, individualized feedback\, and opportunities to practice new skills in a supportive setting. \n  \nDuring the workshop\, Becky will demonstrate using water-based oils with palette knife techniques\, while Jessica will demonstrate using gouache. Together they bring experience working in transparent watercolor\, gouache\, acrylic gouache\, acrylics\, and oils\, and are happy to support artists working in a variety of mediums. All mediums are welcome. \n  \nWorkshop Focus \n-Plein air setup and practical tips/tricks \n-Picking a location \n-Quick notan and value studies to help with composition and design \n-Observing how two artists approach the same scene differently \n  \nBecky & Jess give short demonstrations followed by painting time\, allowing participants to immediately practice the concepts. MAC will update workshop attendees with any changes. \n  \nWhat to Bring \n-Sketchbook \n-Sharpie and/or pencil \n-Personal paint supplies and substrates\, including paint water and a separate container for dirty water (if using a water-based medium); you can paint in the medium of your choice\, no new supplies required; Workshop Artist Demos will be in gouache & oil \n-Tarps if you plan to paint on boardwalks \n-Substrate: Canvas and/or watercolor\, pastel paper \n-Preferred plein air setup (easel\, pochade box\, chair\, trash bag etc.) \n-Water\, lunch and snacks \n-Sunscreen and hat \n-Layers for outdoor comfort as weather in Bodie changes quickly \n‘Painting Bodie’ is made possible by the dedication & partnership between Bodie Foundation & Mono Arts Council to foster\, protect & support our historic places and the arts.
