The event features premier Western artists alongside Eastern Sierra creators\, set against the Sierra Nevada\, with live performances by local favorites Sandy and the High Country. This year’s featured artists include: \nEhi Obinyan (Painting) is an energetic and free-spirited artist who has developed mastery for the combined use of watercolor and gouache medium he calls “WaterCombo.” He is a product of the Art School of Painting & General Arts at the famous Federal Polytechnic college in Nigeria where he graduated with distinctions. Saddled with an infectious enthusiasm for life\, Ehi is eclectic in his chosen theme and distinct in style. Passion and zeal rule his brushes as he works with gouache\, acrylic and oil medium. Many of his works draw their inspiration from a reservoir of deep spiritual influences that stretch from the ancient Kingdom of Benin through to the modern tech world. \nNora Akino (printmaking) was born in Japan to a family of artists. “I have been creating art from a young age and studied drawing and painting in college\,” she says. “My work arises from a feeling I often have when encountering a vista of exceptional beauty – a longing to touch what is far away and mysterious\, that is perhaps universal.” Nora’s prints are almost always created in a single pass through the press\, so the inks are all applied to the plate at once before transferring to paper.  The images are created with brayers\, palette knives\, paintbrushes and rags using viscosity technique\, in which inks of varying viscosities (thick and thin) resist each other on the plate. \nAston Myer Photography is the spousal duo of Tim Aston and Dori Myer.  Their photography focuses on the endlessly diverse locales of California\, tracking seasonal cycles and exploring backwoods gems. They have lived and traveled up and down the state\, currently residing in Mammoth Lakes\, a prime location for accessing some of the most celebrated views on the planet. The couple’s goal is to share a unique vision of their beloved home state and also remind locals of the grandeur that is so near at hand to promote conservation and appreciation. As a science educator and a local history preservationist\, they seek to understand and share the intricate details of our country’s most prized landscapes and natural phenomena. \nCathy Enright’s (jewelry) passion for creating jewelry started with a love of semi precious gemstones\, and evolved into a passion for creating contemporary style jewelry using sterling silver\, copper\, and gold. The abundant natural beauty of her surroundings in California’s Eastern Sierra inspires Cathy’s work. Short walks near her Mammoth Lakes’ home studio and long hikes in the mountains supply her with plentiful ideas for pieces that strive to reflect nature’s beauty and forms. “What surprised me about embarking on this venture is how much joy I get from people buying my jewelry\,” says Cathy. “I feel so honored to be a part of the story of a piece of jewelry that is given as a gift\, or bought as a gift to yourself…to make you feel good. SUMMARY:Painting Bodie: Plein Air Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Demo & Painting Workshop: Tuesday September 22nd 12pm-5pm \n  \nThis workshop will share how Artists\, Jessica de Jesus and Becky Alarcon\, approach plein air painting – how small quick sketches can lead to a finished piece\, either in the field or at home. Our goal is to help participants see the fun and build confidence in outdoor painting\, despite the elements and distractions that come with painting in public. \n  \nThis workshop is ideal for artists who are new to plein air painting\, though artists of all levels are welcome. The workshop will include short demonstrations\, individualized feedback\, and opportunities to practice new skills in a supportive setting. \n  \nDuring the workshop\, Becky will demonstrate using water-based oils with palette knife techniques\, while Jessica will demonstrate using gouache. Together they bring experience working in transparent watercolor\, gouache\, acrylic gouache\, acrylics\, and oils\, and are happy to support artists working in a variety of mediums. All mediums are welcome. \n  \nWorkshop Focus \n-Plein air setup and practical tips/tricks \n-Picking a location \n-Quick notan and value studies to help with composition and design \n-Observing how two artists approach the same scene differently \n  \nBecky & Jess give short demonstrations followed by painting time\, allowing participants to immediately practice the concepts. Throughout the session\, they will circulate to provide individual feedback and guidance. \n  \nClass Fee: $100 Demo & Workshop \nPrice also includes State Park entry fee and a Bodie Docent \nThe tentative plan is to meet at Mono Arts Council for check-in at 12pm\, then caravan to location; Location subject to change pending weather conditions. MAC will update workshop attendees with any changes. \n  \nWhat to Bring \n-Sketchbook \n-Sharpie and/or pencil \n-Personal paint supplies and substrates\, including paint water and a separate container for dirty water (if using a water-based medium); you can paint in the medium of your choice\, no new supplies required; Workshop Artist Demos will be in gouache & oil \n-Tarps if you plan to paint on boardwalks \n-Substrate: Canvas and/or watercolor\, pastel paper \n-Preferred plein air setup (easel\, pochade box\, chair\, trash bag etc.) \n-Water\, lunch and snacks \n-Sunscreen and hat \n-Layers for outdoor comfort as weather in Bodie changes quickly \n‘Painting Bodie’ is made possible by the dedication & partnership between Bodie Foundation & Mono Arts Council to foster\, protect & support our historic places and the arts.
