Join award-winning local Artist Randall Smith to learn essential tips on designing plein air compositions using soft pastels. \nTuesday September 22nd:\n2pm-3pm: Arrive at WMRC/Crooked Creek Lodge for check-in\n4pm-6pm: Artist Plein Air Demo with Randall Smith\n6pm-8pm: Free time to paint\, enjoy dinner & ‘Artist Mingle’; plan next day \n  \nWednesday September 23rd \n7:30-11:30am: Soft Pastel Workshop with Randall Smith to capture the morning light & shadows\n11:30am-3pm: Lunch\, free time to explore & paint\n3pm-4pm: Check Out (allow time to make trip down in daylight) \n  \nClass Fee: $300 Demo\, Workshop\, and One Night Room & Board \nMax Class Size: 20    Min Class Size: 10 \n  \nOvernight Lodging at WMRC/Crooked Creek Lodge: \n\nincludes Tuesday dinner\, and Wednesday breakfast\, lunch\, & snacks\, and non-alcoholic beverages. DESCRIPTION:The Eastern California Museum is pleased to announce an upcoming special author program with author Robert Marks on Saturday\, September 12\, 2026\, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. \nRobert B. Marks is Emeritus Professor of History and Environmental Studies at Whittier College. Marks served for 41 years researching and teaching how human societies and natural environments shape each other across time and geography. He has published several books and articles on Chinese and world environmental history. \nHis new book\, “Deep Time in the Mono Lake Basin\,” applies this deep expertise to California’s Eastern Sierra\, tracing 10\,000 years of geological forces\, Indigenous stewardship\, water politics\, and ecological restoration. A resident of June Lake\, his new book brings both scholarly rigor and intimate knowledge to the complex history of an ancient landscape. \nThis special event will be held inside the Eastern California Museum\, located at 155 N. Grant St. in Independence.
