Northern Inyo Healthcare District will host a Healthy Lifestyle Talk, Navigating the Stages of Breast Cancer: From Diagnosis to Treatment and Beyond, on Tuesday, October 1, at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature Dr. Cheryl Olson, NIHD’s breast surgeon, and Dr. Eva Wasef, NIHD’s pathologist. This talk brings together two of NIHD’s valued experts to discuss the critical importance of how to best move forward when diagnosed with any stage of breast cancer.

Breast cancer affects one in eight women during their lifetime. According to the American Cancer Society, detecting breast cancer early, while it remains in its localized stage, can raise the five-year relative survival rate to 99 percent. However, if cancer spreads before detection, the survival rate falls to 29 percent.

Dr. Olson, a board-certified general surgeon with expertise in breast surgery, robotic surgery, and laparoscopic techniques, provides highly specialized care at NIHD’s Specialty Clinic. She will share her knowledge of advanced treatments, including breast conservation techniques and minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Wasef, a seasoned pathologist, will highlight the role of diagnostics in ensuring early and accurate detection.

This educational talk is part of NIHD’s ongoing Healthy Lifestyle Talk Series, which provides free health information to the public. The event takes place via Zoom and streams live on NIHD’s YouTube channel. Visit www.NIH.org and click the blue banner for connection details.
